JASON WATKINS

Over a career spanning several decades, Watkins has established himself as a fixture in British television, theatre, and film. He is frequently recognized for his ability to disappear into complex characters, making him a favorite for both comedic and dramatic projects.

Some of his most notable work includes:

The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies (2014): Watkins won the BAFTA TV Award for Best Actor for his haunting and empathetic portrayal of Christopher Jefferies, a retired schoolmaster wrongly accused of murder. This performance is widely considered a career-defining role.

W1A and Twenty Twelve: He became a household name for his portrayal of Simon Harwood in these sharp-witted mockumentary sitcoms, where his performance as a sycophantic, buzzword-loving bureaucrat was celebrated for its comedic timing.

The Crown: Watkins joined the cast of the Netflix hit as Prime Minister Harold Wilson, delivering a nuanced performance that captured the warmth and political complexity of the leader during the 1970s.

Des (2020): In this chilling true-crime drama, he played Brian Masters, the biographer of serial killer Dennis Nilsen, opposite David Tennant. The role required him to play a character grappling with the horror of the crimes while trying to maintain academic detachment.

Beyond his television success, Watkins has a distinguished career on stage, including notable performances with the National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company. He is also a dedicated advocate for charity, particularly regarding child bereavement, following the tragic loss of his own daughter, Maude, in 2011. SYNOPSIS

David Price, a quiet and stoic veteran of the Falklands War, has spent decades using the skills he honed as a battlefield medic to serve his local rugby team. Always on hand to tend to injured players, he’s respected and loved in the community, but beneath his composed exterior lies a man haunted by the horrors of his past. Each time David runs onto the pitch, vivid flashbacks of war engulf him—scenes of blood, chaos, and loss—forcing him to fight through his own torment to reach those in need. His loyal dog, Shep, senses his anguish and is always by his side, offering quiet comfort.

At home, David is devoted to his wife, Margaret, who has been battling advanced dementia for years. Every evening, he visits her in the hospital, brushing her hair, feeding her, and reading the love stories they used to share. These tender rituals are David’s only solace, a reminder of the life they built together before her illness stole her away piece by piece. When Margaret finally passes, David is left to navigate his grief with only Shep and his medic duties to ground him.

One fateful game day, David is called to the pitch once more. As he sprints to an injured player, the physical and emotional strain of years of service finally overwhelms him. Staggering with chest pains, he refuses to stop, driven by his unyielding need to help others. But before he can reach the player, he collapses, suffering a massive cardiac arrest. The irony is devastating: a man who dedicated his entire life to saving others now lies vulnerable, surrounded by teammates and medics fighting to save him.

“The final whistle” is a poignant exploration of sacrifice, loyalty, and the quiet heroism of those who give everything without asking for anything in return. It is a tribute to the resilience of the human spirit, even in the face of unimaginable pain and loss.
